Job description

Are you based near Luton and looking for an exciting new senior finance role? Can you use your breadth of finance and accounting abilities to support our clients? Do you love variety, being busy and leading a fabulous small team in a client-facing role?

We have a full-time, permanent Head of Accounting Services vacancy and we'd love to hear from you! We are a professional services firm and we specialize in outsourced accounting support, executive administration, company secretarial duties, and event management. Our clients are trade and professional associations, academic societies, charities, and other not-for-profit membership organizations.

This is a hybrid role based between Luton/remote, each week. Key to this role will be overseeing a full client portfolio of accounts supporting to provide an excellent accounting service, quality control, data integrity, and reporting for our valued membership and Charity clients.

What will I be doing in this role?

  • Oversee a portfolio of client accounts from a QA perspective and provide support where needed in processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank transactions, reconciling VAT and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Effective leadership in coaching and developing the small team and understand training requirements to build resilience and capability.
  • Review, streamline, and automate finance activities within the team including processes and systems, and make recommendations to improve efficiency, focusing on internal controls relating to financial policies and procedures.
  • Leading on the preparation of financial reports and management accounts for strategic client accounts.
  • Lead on strategic commercial objectives to develop and grow the client base and set results-focused KPIs and metrics to measure success.

What skills and experience should I be able to demonstrate?

  • Ideally a fully qualified accountant with professional membership (CIMA / ACCA).
  • Practical and comprehensive experience of accounting software, particularly SAGE, QuickBooks, or Xero.
  • Previous experience of working with a number of clients in a client-facing role or managing a portfolio of client accounts.
  • Able to analyze and interpret financial data to manage the financial health of the clients and able to analyze data quickly and accurately and present clear reports.
  • Demonstrate a depth of knowledge in accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
  • An understanding of the importance of governance, audit, and compliance.

  • Extensive senior-level finance experience in a finance function performing a broad range of technical accounting activities.
  • Able to demonstrate ideas for process improvements, increased efficiency, and smarter ways of working across the client base to ensure effective resource utilization.
  • Focuses on providing an outstanding service to our clients and understands they are our priority.
  • Possesses leadership and people management experience in developing a high-performing and engaged team.
  • Strong professional ethics, with an ability to manage confidential and sensitive data.

Full job spec on request. You must be eligible to work in the UK on a permanent basis and be able to regularly travel to the Luton office each week as well as working remotely. Closing Date 22nd September.
