About the role

TheTrainee Tax Professional role is a 4-year training contract that will see you studytowards the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification beforehaving the opportunity to progress towards Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) status.

 

It includes support throughout to ensure you receive the relevant practical tax experience across various types of tax to support you on the path to becoming a CTA and developing a successful career in tax.  

 

Tax is a dynamic and rewarding profession which combines technical expertise, problem-solving and client advisory work. As a trainee you will gain experience across a range of tax disciplines while helping businesses and individuals navigate an increasingly complex tax environment.

 

Key responsibilities

Trainee Tax Professionals work under the close supervision of senior staff in our tax department. As you progress, you will be responsible for completing more complex areas of work. You will also begin to direct and review the work of junior staff. The role will be mostly office based but may include off-sitework. An idea of the work you may be responsible for carrying out is detailed below:

 

·       Assisting preparing corporation tax returns and tax computations

·       Develop technical knowledge through tax research and analysis

  • Support clients with tax compliance obligations
  • Learn how to respond to HMRC enquiries and correspondence
  • Analysis of financial data of a complex nature
  • Carry out tax research and summarize findings
  • Preparation of tax notes for accounts and reporting
  • Respond to queries from finance functions and auditors
  • Study for professional qualifications (ATT, CTA)

 

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by both your changing role and the overall business objectives of the Firm.

 

About you

You will need an aptitude for analytical thinking and good attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well individually and as part of a team with staff across our offices are desirable qualities needed to succeed in this role.

 

Experience with Microsoft (particularly Excel, Word & Outlook) is encouraged, and you will have a willingness to learn new tasks, be organized, reliable, and pay excellent attention to detail.

 

You have good time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and budgets. You can prepare and present information through liaising with other team members and have the understanding and appreciation of other people's and the organization's targets.

 

Entry requirements

 

We welcome applications from graduates of any discipline who are looking to pursue a specialist career in tax.

 

You will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • On track to achieve or have obtained a 2:2  or above in any degree discipline
  • 100 UCAS points (or equivalent)
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent)
